Quick answer: When is the next Canada Child Benefit payment?

The next Canada Child Benefit (CCB) payment is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The final two payment dates of 2026 are November 20 and December 11. The CRA normally sends this tax-free benefit monthly to eligible families. Payments may take time to appear, especially when delivered by cheque.

Key point: The July 2026–June 2027 benefit period uses your family’s 2025 tax information. Check CRA’s official payment calendar for updates.

How much is the Canada Child Benefit in 2026?

For the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit year, the maximum federal CCB is:

Under 6 years old$679.75/monthUp to $8,157 per year per child
Ages 6–17$573.58/monthUp to $6,883 per year per child (monthly figure rounded)

These maximum amounts apply when adjusted family net income (AFNI) is below $38,237. Above that threshold, the amount generally decreases according to income and number of children. Some families may receive additional provincial or territorial benefits through the same payment system.

Example, not a payment quote: A family eligible for the full federal maximum with one child aged 4 and one aged 10 could receive about $1,253.33 per month ($679.75 + approximately $573.58). Your actual amount can differ due to income, custody, eligibility and other factors.

Use the CRA’s benefit amount guidance or its official child and family benefits calculator for a personalized estimate.

Why did my CCB amount change in July 2026?

The CRA recalculates benefits every July. Payments from January through June 2026 generally reflected 2024 adjusted family net income, while payments from July 2026 through June 2027 reflect 2025 adjusted family net income. A higher income, changes in custody or family status, or a child reaching a new age bracket can change the amount. Annual inflation adjustments can also affect the maximum benefit.

Who is eligible for the Canada Child Benefit?

Eligibility depends on the CRA’s rules, including whether you live with a child under 18, are primarily responsible for the child’s care and upbringing, are a resident of Canada for tax purposes, and meet the applicable citizenship or immigration-status conditions. Shared-custody arrangements have specific rules: each eligible parent generally receives 50% of the amount calculated using that parent’s own family income.

Review the official Canada Child Benefit information before applying. Both spouses or common-law partners generally need to file tax returns annually, even when one has no income, so CRA can calculate ongoing benefits.

What should I do if my CCB payment is missing?

  1. Confirm the scheduled date using the CRA calendar above.
  2. Check CRA My Account for the payment status and amount, and confirm your direct-deposit details.
  3. Check your bank activity for a deposit and whether the account has changed.
  4. Allow five business days after the scheduled payment date before calling CRA about a missing payment, as instructed in its CCB guidance.
  5. Contact CRA at 1-800-387-1193 if the payment still has not arrived. For mailed cheques, also check for postal-service disruptions.

Never share your CRA login or banking password with a website claiming it can release a delayed benefit. Access CRA through the official Canada.ca website.

How do I apply for CCB or update my details?

Eligible parents can often apply when registering a birth, through CRA My Account, or using the relevant CRA application process. Report changes in marital status, address, custody, and banking details promptly. The first payment depends on when eligibility begins and when the application is processed; it is not necessarily paid immediately after a child is born.
